Presents (Geschenke) With A Heart November 25th, 2011

Every stage of life is filled with many joyous and memorable celebrations – birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, baptisms, Christmases and even Valentines. Celebrations fill life with boundless happiness and add that extra icing on the cake. What makes such celebrations even more special is celebrating and sharing the moment with friends and family.

And of course in every celebration also deserves a perfect present (Geschenke). Presents are a way of showing appreciation and love to a person who was generous enough to share such a joyous occasion.  That’s why it is important to find that perfect gift that shows how much you care about a person. Here are a few tips of in finding that perfect present.

First, consider your budget. How much are you will to spend for the gift? Of course the price of the gift you are going to give is not that important. It is not about how expensive your gift is, but the thought you have put in it. For example for mother’s day, you can give your mother flowers which you yourself cut and arranged with lovely ribbons and paper. You also opt to give a personalized gift, one which you yourself made or decorated.  That way the present can be cheaper and the person can feel the care and effort you placed in your present. For example, for a baby shower, you can gift the expectant mom a basket full of baby stuff.

Of course you also have to consider what the occasion is. If it is a birthday, you also have to consider the age of the person celebrating his birthday. There is an appropriate birthday gift (Geburtstagsgeschenke) for every age; if the birthday celebrant is a ten year old boy then he might enjoy a new blue bike. Or it is your 50 year old grandmother, the perhaps she might enjoy the company of a cute, cuddly kitten.

Also, put the personality of the celebrant in mind. Are they simple or will they appreciate something more flamboyant and quirky? Will they like something more practical, something they can use every day? Sometimes, it is also better to give a gift which the person can of course use, especially if you’re giving a gift to newly-wed couples who are just beginning in life and may need gifts for their home.

If the person has a particular hobby or interest, then it would be easier and better you give them gifts related to their hobby. Like if she likes to paint then give her a gift of paintbrushes or he is into fishing, new fishing gears might just do the trick and make him smile. There are a lot of hobby shops nowadays that cater to almost every hobby imaginable.

Consider also the situation of the person and give a gift that would help them somehow. Like if your friend has a very stressful life, why not treat her to a spa day. Give also something which they can use in the future. For newly-wed couples for example, helping them get started in life by giving them a start in life insurance can be a great gift although it may be a bit pricey. Insurance comparison (Versicherungsvergleiche) can be available in online sites to help you look for a great insurance option.

But always remember, whatever gift you choose, whether it is expensive or a bit cheaper, always give it will love and with an open heart. As always in gift giving, it is the thought that counts.
